Good Music...No Album

Every half assed hip-hop head spends a decent amount of time in their life making their own personal “Top 5 Dead or Alive” lists with their friends, and then wastes even more time by battling it out about the lists in question. Then there’s the “greatest album” rankings, or the “Unsigned Hype” type lists, but here at SarcasticDBag.com, we try to ignore all that.

The rappers we feature today fall under a different category, and these 3 young men are all signed (by major labels) have all dropped some dope material (mixtapes, videos, etc.), and are all about 6 months away from becoming bigger than cigarettes.

The only thing they haven’t done is drop an album.

So, in no particular order, SarcasticDBag.com presents the “Top 3 Rappers Without an Album” list. It’s official by the way. No arguments allowed, even though there are thousands of rappers out there who deserve this distinction.

Signed To: SRC Records a.k.a. Steve Rifkind’s spot a.k.a Wu-Tang and Akon’s spot a.k.a under the Universal banner.

Reps: Any suburb or college campus, but he lives in Atlanta and comes from Pennsylvania.

Notable Achievement: Noted drinking game enthusiast: “I am champ-e-yawn, at beer pong/Allen Iver-sawn, Hakeem Olajuwon”

Why you should care:

Haters and doubters will say “he’s corny, he’s white, he’s nerdy, he’s preppy and his voice sounds exactly like Eminem.”

But…he’s got killer flow, he’s clever, he’s funny, he can spit and his voice sounds exactly like Eminem.

Enough said.

So check out Asher Roth’s material. “I Love College” is laid back and poppy while “The Lounge” sounds like some classic back packer type ish (labels are wack though). But you have get his mixtape because Mr. Roth is very versatile, and all the while he maintains a sharp wit and an even sharper sense of humor.

Signed to: Interscope

Reps: Harlem and Cleveland, but he has a certain fondness for Brooklyn Girls.

Notable Achievement: Successfully sampling a Willy Wonka song and making it a hot record. That’s ballsy.

Why you should care:

To put it bluntly, Charles Hamilton is a cocky muthafucka, but wouldn’t you be if you were only 20 years old and producing some of the dopest beats and rhymes out there?

It’s nice to hear a rapper with an immense amount of swag and the lyrical and musical talent to back it all up with. Mr. Hamilton is surely one of New York’s brightest lights and you should definitely check out his single “Brooklyn Girls” and add his mixtape to your iTunes library. You will not be disapointed.

Wale

Signed to: Allido Records a.k.a. Mark Ronson’s spot a.k.a. Interscope.

Reps: DCMarylandVirginia, but he’s actually from Washington D.C.

Notable Achievement: Besides the mixtapes, he probably banged Lindsay Lohan (achievement? you decide).

Why you should care:

Wale (pronounced Wah-lay, or Wall Eh if you’re Canadian) is signed to Mark Ronson’s label Allido Records and has consistently dropped classic mixtapes, the most recent being the Seinfeld inspired “Mixtape About Nothing”. This guy can spit and has a real appreciation for a quality product. His mixtapes aren’t full of filler and they provide entertaining and insightful lyrics from beginning to end. Hopefully he’ll be the spark that causes his under-repped region to blow up.

So check out the “Feature Heavy Song” and the two mixtapes provided because Wale goes hard, and you need these in your library.

Wale - The Feature Heavy Song (featuring Bun B and Pusha T of the Clipse)

Wale - The Mixtape About Nothing

Wale - Paint A Picture Mixtape
